Why should you train in our Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu study group?
Most people have never heard of Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu. Daito Ryu is the parent art of Aikido. What is Aikido? Aikido is a martial art tracing back to feudal Japan samurai era weapons and battlefield training. Today, we preserve the old teachings through noncompetitive empty hand and weapons practice for women and men. It will improve your health, posture, patience, flexibility and movement, and teaches you how to safely fall. Aikido is a form of moving meditation. There is no winning and losing. In our modern times, Aikido is an art easily taken alongside your regular gym workout, yoga classes, other martial arts, painting, choir, sports, etc. The Daito Ryu curriculum is studied alongside Aikido. You will train in both arts. If you are still interested, please read on below for details.

Curriculum:
Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu - The guidelines and curriculum as set forth by Roy Goldberg Sensei.

Emphasis:
Firstly - Overall Health and Well-being
Secondly - the safety and well-being of our training partners and the joy of practice
Lastly - the efficacy of martial training and martial techniques

It is our belief that the healthful aspects and the martial aspects are interwoven together and it is difficult to separate the two but we choose to emphasize one slightly over the other in most cases. We frown upon and do not elevate competitiveness for the sake of competitiveness or pride or ego, but if organically a student and another student, or group of students with a firm grasp of ukemi are interested in intensifying their martial training together it will happily be accommodated. Safety and the pleasure of practice is our design.
Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu is a 1,200-year-old samurai martial art and National Treasure of Japan. Its core principles focus on subtle manipulations of balance that can complement and enrich any martial arts training. Daito Ryu is not just a set of techniques, but a mindset that can transform budo practice.

Once secret and passed generation to generation through the Takeda clan, the system of Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu was revived in the late 19th century by Sokaku Takeda, 32nd in line of the Takeda family. Takeda taught throughout Japan using a seminar system to spread the art. In the early 20th century he taught thousands of Japan’s highest ranked martial artists from Judo, Kenjutsu, Jujutsu and Karate.

It has directly influenced the development of many popular martial arts, such as Shorinji Kempo, Hakko Ryu Jujutsu, Hapkido and most famously Aikido, whose founder Morihei Ueshiba trained extensively in Daito Ryu.
