Why should you train in our Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu study group?
This art is for self-development.

Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu is the parent art of Aikido. It is a martial art tracing back to feudal Japan samurai era with weapons and battlefield training. Today, we preserve the old teachings through noncompetitive empty hand and weapons practice for women and men. It will improve your health, posture, patience, flexibility and movement, and teaches you how to safely fall. Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu is a form of moving meditation. There is no winning and losing, no competition. Although students of all levels are accepted, this is  considered an advance course. Please inquire using the form below if you are interested.

Curriculum:
Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu - The guidelines and curriculum as set forth by Roy Goldberg Sensei.
Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu is a 1,200-year-old samurai martial art and National Treasure of Japan. Its core principles focus on subtle manipulations of balance that can complement and enrich any martial arts training. Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu is not just a set of techniques, but a mindset that can transform budo practice.

Once secret and passed generation to generation through the Takeda clan, the system of Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu was revived in the late 19th century by Sokaku Takeda, 32nd in line of the Takeda family. Takeda taught throughout Japan using a seminar system to spread the art. In the early 20th century he taught thousands of Japan’s highest ranked martial artists from Judo, Kenjutsu, Jujutsu and Karate.

It has directly influenced the development of many popular martial arts, such as Shorinji Kempo, Hakko Ryu Jujutsu, Hapkido and most famously Aikido, whose founder Morihei Ueshiba trained extensively in Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you teach self-defense and fighting?
As a personal choice, this curriculum does not focus on self-defense or combatives. This course is for self-development. My goal is on maintaining the teachings of this art while improving the individual's health and well-being. It is moving meditation. This study group focuses on the classical Daito Ryu techniques and our practice is non-competitive. There is no sparing, no winning and losing. You can take this course along side other martial arts. The Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu curriculum is a deep dive into technique, history, and the refinement of oneself. Both Aikido and Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu are my life's passion and I hope to be able to share these beautiful arts with you.
Is there sparring and competition?
We do not spar or compete. Practice is 100% kata (forms) based and all paired partner work are fully (100%) cooperative. Our focus is on the health and well-being of the practitioner.
Why are all visits by appointment only?
We screen all visitors through the public national sexual offender registry.

We follow a strict classical method for ranking, the student is given rank by the instructor when deemed appropriate. The first rank could take a few years. I encourage people to train for enjoyment and health.
